The Smart Sound provides access to collaborate with leading industrial and academic partners specialising in the delivery of innovative marine autonomous solutions, such as: surface and sub-surface autonomous systems, advanced manufacturing, smart ports and cyber security. The FAST infrastructure includes platforms, sensors, advanced power systems and communication networks to the Smart Sound.

AutoNaut

The AutoNaut is an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) propelled forward only by the motion of the waves.  Powered entirely by renewable energy, the AutoNaut is capable of long-duration at-sea missions. Patented Wave Foil Technology converts energy from the pitch and roll of the waves, an extensive range of sensors can be powered by solar energy. Autonomy means the USV can be deployed anywhere in the world, including hazardous marine environments.

Frontier Technical

Frontier Technical

Frontier Technical is an R&D business and consortium lead participant with a focus on the commercialisation of three technology streams:

1. ‘MARLIN’ Modular Floating Platform.
 
2. ‘SUBSEA TUG’ for remotely operated underwater construction.
 
3. ‘ENERGY TRANSFER SHUTTLE’ for autonomous underwater collection and delivery of stored energy including ‘Green hydrogen’.

The underwater construction system employs patent protected buoyancy and orientation control. It enables structures consisting of uniform sized hexagonal interlocking modules to be constructed at the point of use. Float modules fit into standard ISO shipping containers for easy transport to any location.

Frontier Technical has had Innovate UK, and EU grant support to develop and protect Intellectual Property, and complete early stage feasibility and currently leading a 7 partner consortium of industrial, academic and RTO organisations: MARLIN STAR Community Access to Stored and Transferable Energy from Floating Renewables. Frontier Technical is founded on marine and offshore systems performance and reliability experience and working with organisations in the submersible equipment sector.

We are currently working with Solis Marine, Falmouth on a sub-sea embodiment to provide electrical power for surveillance and sensors using Vortex Induced Vibration from current as an energy source. WITT has land based test facilities to trail the system in a repeatable way and a test deployment at the Turnchapel site is imminent.
